Modern Technology and Media.

As technology progresses, the methods and basis on which animations and special effects are based get revolutionized. New graphic systems, better Stereos and many more advancements help the Animation Producers of today like, 'Pixar' and 'Square-Enix' to achieve monumental projects such as 'Final Fantasy Vii'. The resolution, details, sound, movement and editing of such movies have been perfected to such an extent that viewers are left speechless. A small clip has been provided from the movie for your reference.

Opening Titles and Establishing Shots

The latest work we conducted in our practical class was viewing 'Opening titles' of various movies and see how the music, the fonts, the visuals and shots related to the theme and message being portrayed by the movie. Some of the movies we viewed were,

I apologize for my informalities, but with all do respect, these movies are 'Epic.'

Movie Poster Review

As my group Partner Kamran Shahnawaz already posted a Movie Poster based on the Preliminaries that we had done, i supposed that maybe it would be advisable to come up with a completely new Poster for a completely different clip, which is neither a Prelim nor our Final Movie, but just a teaser, a paranoia/horror/suspense 2:00 minute clip will be uploaded in the near by future for critique and commentary. The genre is different as compared to the other clips we've done, and it would probably be somewhat of a trailer then a movie. More of an experiment, to test our limits and achieve excellence. Shaireen, a friend of mine, stars in this clip, alongside with Kamran Shahnawaz and Andrew Jared. The Software i used for the cover/Poster was Adobe Photoshop particularly using the magic wand tool.

Script And Storyline Of Preliminary Video 2

Scenario 1:

Dark interrogation cell. There is a table and two chairs. A file and some papers are lying on the table. Just one bulb hangs directly above the table, pouring all its light on it.

A man in a vest coat is walking around. There is a jacket hung over one of the chairs. The man also has badge on his vest and it is implied that he is a detective or an interrogator.
A bell rings and the door of the room opens. A man wearing black and white striped shirt and grey/black trouser comes in (he limps) and sits down on a chair.

Dt: You have been with us for six months now Rick. You look pretty fine to me so I am expecting you to cooperate. I just want you to answer me one simple question. Who is Bob Marlin?
(Rick does not answer and keeps staring at the file on the table)
Dt: Are you listening to me? Who is Bob Marlin?!
Rick(laughs at first and suddenly turns serious): I don’t know. (Giggles again)
Dt: Listen to me very carefully. I know that you are completely well so I won’t mind using physical methods to get my answer now.
Rick: I do not know Bob Marlin!
Dt: That is a lie! (pauses). Look, you have murdered five innocent people and you can never get out of this place. But if you cooperate, I’ll give you all possible relaxations. If you do not, you will get nothing but misery and pain.
Rick: I do not feel any pain. Not anymore.
Dt: Just answer my question, damn it!
Rick(calmly): I do not know any Bob Marlin.
(Detective goes towards him and kicks him in his leg. Rick screams)
Rick: I do not know any Bob! Let me go!
Dt: You know him very well so don’t you can lie to us, I just need to know about him!
Rick: You will never get the answer from me! (spits at Dt.)
Dt: Take him away! (waits until rick is taken away. Then takes out his cell phone and speaks through the phone) He isn’t any better. We’ll have to put him back in the ward. ( He opens the file. The front page is Bob Marlin’s profile and it is now known that Rick is Bob himself.)

Preliminary 2 (Editing)

After the final shots were taken, it was time for another trip to the media lab. Much like our previous approach, we had taken the same shots several times from different angles and perspectives which gave us an enormous amount of options and angles to chose from. Cutting, cropping, pasting and renewing clips with the help of Adobe Premier Pro, we were able to organize all our material and turn it into a sequenced movie. For Special sound effects, we added suspense music, non-diagetic of course, as an introduction to our establishing shot. Never the less, we did face problems with the audio of the clip since the in-built  micro-phone of the Cam-Corder had very very poor recording. We weren't able to do anything about it as our dead line was close and so    we decided that we'd record audio separately in the next video. And so our second Preliminary Video came to an end.

Preliminary 2 (Shooting)

We focused more on using new techniques of camera angles for example panning shots and hand carry. Though a bit shaky, we did a fairly good job at it. The psychopath, (thats me), being the center of attention clearly made it a lot easier for us to think of new camera angles to shoot from since the facial expressions and the sudden mood swings were compulsory and needed to be captured in a fashionable way. The lighting was once again Saad's brilliant work and the directing was done by none other then Kamran shahnawaz, camera's were controlled by Afia and the rest is quite obvious. The camera movement was very rapid especially during the part when the Officer kicks the psychopath's leg. Misenscene material consisted of a folder containing Rick's documents and personal information, the desk and chairs, the officer's clothing and the psychopath's ward clothes. The room had to be dark so that only focused area's could be lit up by the lighting, which is why we applied black chart papers on the windows to block out any extra light.

Videos and further information regarding projects including the final video and institution will be posted very shortly, including the 'Movie Title Page'. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The Second Preliminary Video (The Planning)

After the completion of our first preliminary, we were quite satisfied with our work. That is before it became evident that our group had to get started on another video. However, we decided to shoot another interrogation scene, but this time, we'd have a much more mature approach to it. The shots would be more intense, there would be more drama, and the dialogs would be more sophisticated. This clip would be something unlike the other videos, since there would be a psychopath involved in a series of murders. Kamran came up with a story board and we consulted and edited it together. Mind mapping allowed the team to learn the true meaning of the clip and what its objective was and eventually we came up with a final draft of the movie and how it would look and sound.

The Script Of The Video

The FBI officer walks into the interrogation room.
FBI: We finally caught you Saad , why did you do it?
Saad: (silently) i did not do anything.
FBI: What do you mean? you slaughtered two people so brutally for god's sake!
Saad: It was not my fault.
FBI: What do you mean not your fault?
Saad: Tell me something officer , if someone raped your mother or killed your dearest friend .. what would you do?
FBI:Perhaps that is why we have the police department , but now way i would slaughter someone so brutally.. THAT IS JUST INSANE !!!(throws pen at the table)
Saad:They were meant to be killed , they were not the men of god.
FBI:are you a man of god?
Saad: yes(silently)
FBI:oh god he is unbelievable...(points towards the security guard) ... TAKE HIM AWAY!
(the security guard takes Saad away to prison)

Background To The Plot Of The Video

This scenario is situated in an interrogation room where the FBI has caught "Saad Tariq", a convict. Aged 21, ethnicity; South Asian. After the death of his father at the age of 2, he was brought up by his mother who seemingly wanted to protect him from his wealth thirsty uncle. The Uncle then murdered his mother when he was at a tender age of 11 since he wanted the child's property that his father left him. Saad fled from home and started to live alone to save his dear life. He was bound to remember the bitter truth eventually and as he grew up his understanding developed. By then his uncle became a powerful man and was not to be defeated easily. He wanted to kidnap him when the FBI caught him just when he was about to get back at him. The clip begins with Saad being thrown in an interrogation room. The officer from FBI enters the room and asks him a few questions but does not get required answers. Saad believes that he has done nothing wrong and still refuses to admit he is guilty of attempted kidnap and murder. The officers tries to persuade him to other ways of dealing with such problems but slaughtering someone so brutally is never the better choice. By the end of the clip the FBI officer is enraged and dismisses the the interrogation.

Preliminaries (Editing )

After collecting the scenes we had shot. it was time to get to business for now we had to edit it. The resources at hand were merely, a Computer Pentium 4, a Cam-Corder and Adobe Premier Pro. After the clips were uploaded to the PC, we imported them to Adobe Premier Pro and Started to assemble them in order. Achieving goal number really calmed us down a lot. However there was still so much more to be done. Cutting and pasting of each clip was necessary so that it would look realistic and all the unwanted material could be gotten rid off. Each camera angle used in its own unique way made our shots very interesting and with constant simultaneous switches in camera angles we were able to make the video addictive for the viewers. Since we had shot each scene at least three times from different angles, we had a wide variety to chose from while we were editing. Special effects such as sounds and etc were added on Premier Pro to make our clip interesting and fresh. After a hard week's work our first Preliminary Video was complete.

Preliminaries (Shooting 2)

we used an emergency light in a dark room so that light could only be thrown on the area's we'd want, in other words, the actors only. Saad stood on a table holding the light down on the two actors. The dim and gloomy affect really contributed to the aura of the scene. The establishing shot was of the criminal entering the chamber where the officer awaits him. There was camera movement along side the criminal as he moved towards the table where he was requested to be seated. An enraged officer started asking questions and there were a couple of  over the shoulder shots. There was a long shot involved in the scene too where the entire right hand side of the room was shown including the officer, the criminal and the table. Lighting was somewhat a problem in the long shot since there was no way we could show the lights hanging from above the table without Saad cutting into the picture but it was taken care of in editing. After the completion of the shoots, we headed off to the lab to Edit our work.

Preliminaries (Shooting)

The small clip we were assigned to make in the start of th term consisted of a conversation between two people. The different groups that were made in class, had very different ideas on how their movie will be made and what would it be based on. The group I was assigned to consisted of Kamran Shahnawaz, Afia Lateef, Andrew Jared Dean, and Saad Tariq. Various ideas popped into our heads but one in particular stood out. The idea of an interrogation scene and a conversation between an officer and a criminal subject. Upon deciding that we were shooting this scenario, we needed a dark room, so that the feeling of an interrogation chamber can be set up. We covered the windows of one of the class rooms with black chart paper to avoid any light from coming in the room. For the first day of shooting, Kamran wrote the script, Afia was on the camera, and andrew and I were acting with Saad on lights. After a successful first day, we called it a rap and planned on continuing the next day.

My Apologies

First of all i would like to apologize for my late submission. I'm truly sorry for any problems it may have caused anyone. Especially my teacher Ms Fauzia. I'm dearly sorry for the in convenience.
